Morning Pages

Hey friends,

Recently I discovered something called Morning Pages so firstly

What is Morning Pages?

Here's what Julia Cameron, author of The Artist's Way has to say:

Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages– they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page...and then do three more pages tomorrow.

Traditionally Morning Pages is longhand (handwritten) but this can be painfully slow so I use an app instead.

I'll be honest - I've never yet managed to write "3 pages" (or any pages on most days) because as I'm typing stuff onto the page, my thoughts end up going down different rabbit-holes and I get distracted by new ideas, and often the realisation that there's something urgent I need to get done instead. But I'm trying to get better.

So yes there it is you just write out whatever comes to mind but if you are interested here is the Template I use.

Gratitude

What I'll do to make today great

Affirmations

as many as you want

After this write Today is going to be the best day ever.

Then write whatever comes to mind.

The few days I have done this exercise I have sparked new ideas and it has really changed the game overall.

If I hadn't made it a point to just write anything on the page, I don't think these things would've happened, and they've certainly made recent times in lockdown more interesting than it would've otherwise been.

So yeah I'd suggest trying out the Morning Pages practice. Who knows maybe in a few days to weeks, you'll find it's changed your life.

Have a great week!

Conor

Quote of the Week

These hours are all you’ve got. There is nothing in your life that is more valuable than your time, the moments you have left. You cannot put too much awareness and intention into the way you invest those moments.
